Hello, friends! This week we are featuring Rachell and her adorable baby, Cal, on the blog.
Rachell is 34 and lives in Basehor, Kansas with her husband, Josh, and their new baby boy, Cal. Rachell is a wedding and portrait photographer in Kansas City.
During the first week with your newborn, what was:
Your biggest challenge?
"The biggest challenge for me was adjusting to the ever-changing schedule of feedings, sleeping and being fine that every day was going to be different."
"We aren't given a manual so instead of feeling frustrated and defeated at times (especially at 3:00 in the morning) I simply did things that worked for us."
"For example, my little guy couldn't wait 3 hours for his next feeding and that was fine, so I just adapted to what he needed when he needed it."
The biggest surprise?
"The biggest surprise for me was how quickly mama instincts kicked in! As a newborn photographer I have been around and handled lots of babies, however, never one of my own. As soon as he was delivered I found myself instinctively doing things that just made sense. From being pregnant to a mom in a matter of seconds it's funny how nature helps you out and realize what you and your body are capable of doing."
Your favorite part?
"Simply staring at him!"
"That sounds funny, I know... but you could have locked me in a room for hours on end and I would have been happy just looking at the little creature we made. Like many phases in life, I know that the newborn phase unfortunately will come to an end and that saddens me, so instead of dreading the inevitable I spend all of my time soaking up all his little toes and features and just be in the moment."
