A Village for New Moms: Inside Bonsie’s First Prenatal & Postpartum Yoga Class
Emily ShepardThe oxytocin in the room was flowing.
Thirteen expecting and postpartum moms and nine babies gathered at hOMe holistic for a gentle, restorative prenatal and baby yoga class — a beautiful morning of movement, bonding, and community.
After settling onto mats with bolsters, blocks, and little ones, moms introduced themselves and shared where they were on their motherhood journey. Then, each mom received a Bonsie Skin to Skin™ Babywear footie — designed to make skin-to-skin contact simple, soft, and accessible. As babies were dressed in their buttery-soft Bonsies, moms discussed the many benefits of skin-to-skin bonding, and shared heartfelt stories of how this simple practice supported their postpartum recovery and deepened their connection with their babies.
The class, led by the sensational Erin Boje, began with gentle breathwork and stretching. Moms moved and swayed while engaging with their playful babies or connecting with the little lives growing inside them. Between poses, they paused to nurse, bottle-feed, change diapers, or lovingly rub their bellies. It was a beautiful, real hour of motherhood — complete with tears, milk, laughter, and honest stories shared among new friends.

Why Community Matters for New Moms
Motherhood is transformative, but it can also be deeply isolating. Strong social support can reduce the risk of postpartum depression, improve maternal mental health, and even support healthy infant development. Yet for many women, a “village” isn’t automatically built-in. That’s why gatherings like this class are so meaningful.
As moms and yoga enthusiasts ourselves, we’ve seen firsthand how rewarding it is to be in a space surrounded by other moms on a similar path. The shared birth stories, words of encouragement, and baby coos are more than comforting — they’re essential for maternal well-being.
In our modern world, a village isn’t always waiting for every new mom. But places like hOMe holistic help fill that gap. They offer a safe haven to share worries and wisdom, to laugh and cry together, and to remember that none of us are doing this alone.
Creating More Moments That Matter
At Bonsie, we believe there should be more moments like this — filled with shared laughter and tears, baby coos and parenting tips, deep breaths and deeper conversations. These spaces of connection are powerful, and they’re a crucial part of nurturing both moms and babies.
That’s why we’re committed to sponsoring more prenatal and postnatal yoga classes across the country. We’re partnering with inspiring teachers and welcoming studios to help moms connect with themselves, their babies, and one another. Every mom deserves this time — to feel seen, supported, and reminded of her strength — and every baby deserves the closeness that comes with it.
And because connection doesn’t stop when you leave the mat, we make sure each mom goes home with skin-to-skin babywear for her little one.

The Power of Skin-to-Skin — for Moms, Too
While skin-to-skin contact is often discussed in terms of benefits for babies, it’s equally powerful for mothers. Holding your baby skin-to-skin can:
-
Boost oxytocin, the “love hormone” that reduces stress and enhances bonding
-
Support postpartum recovery, including more efficient uterine healing and reduced bleeding
-
Promote milk production and make breastfeeding easier
- Lower maternal anxiety and depression risk, fostering a deeper sense of calm and connection
That’s why Bonsie Skin to Skin™ Babywear is designed with thoughtful features that make this closeness effortless — buttery-soft fabrics and clever openings that allow for skin-to-skin contact anytime, anywhere, without fussing with snaps or zippers. It’s more than clothing; it’s a tool for connection, healing, and nurturing.

Join Us for the Next Babes + Baby Yoga Series
Our next sponsored series, Babes + Baby, will take place in Encinitas, California, at Asteya Live with experienced yoga teacher Fallon Lev.
“I started teaching prenatal yoga when I was pregnant and fell in love with creating a sacred space for new mamas,” Fallon shares. “More than the movement, connecting with other moms who just get it was such a gentle hug to my soul during pregnancy. It’s my joy to nurture women at a time when they need it most.”
The Babes + Baby Mini Series will be a space for bonding, connection, and community — a judgment-free zone where nothing needs explaining and nothing requires an apology.
“Every mama will leave feeling seen, empowered, and maybe even with a new best friend,” Fallon adds. “It’s a cup-filling experience at its finest.”
