Real Dads. Real Interviews. Drew’s Story
Happy almost Father’s Day to all our Bonsie Dads!
This week I would like to share a special interview with Drew, my husband. I appreciate Drew for so many things: he does the laundry, grocery shopping, grills the most delicious meals, and makes time to read to our daughters every night. He also believed in me to make a career out of writing so that I could work from home and raise our babies. He loves his girls fiercely, and I am so proud to call him my husband.
Happy Father’s Day, Drew! We love you!

During your first week with Laney, what was:
Your biggest challenge?
Emily, my wife, experienced breastfeeding challenges that were new to us, plus she had to nurse constantly and heal from labor, all while we cared for our newborn and toddler. I forgot how exhausting having a newborn baby is and now we have a toddler to keep entertained as well.
You think you have parenting pretty well figured out after your first kid, but I quickly realized that my confidence overshot my (lack of) experience.
Returning to work was tough after only a week at home, especially knowing that I wouldn’t be able to help Emily with anything during the day. I have the utmost respect for all mothers, especially ones that choose to stay home and raise their kids.
The biggest surprise?
I forgot so much of what I learned after bringing Darcy, our first daughter, home. Newborns are so fragile; I had to re-learn how to hold a newborn, change her diaper and get her dressed.
Thank god for Bonsie clothes! (Seriously, though. That’s all I wanted to dress her in.) I was surprised at how much there was to learn, and how much there still is to learn. It’s nice to have advice, but mostly I’m figuring it out as I go.

Your favorite part?
Becoming a dad means the total relinquishment of putting myself first…in a good way. Starting new traditions and making memories with my daughters is so much more rewarding and fulfilling than any amount of free time or hobby could ever be. I’ll never forget introducing Darcy to her little sister for the first time and watching them get to know each other, learn and grow together is the highlight of each day. Being a father to my two little girls is by far the most challenging and rewarding experience I’ve ever had.
