Many of us venture into parenting with little to no information on what to expect from this long journey on which we are about to embark. being a parent is one of the most challenging jobs we will ever have the pleasure of being hired, and yet there is no handbook, no formal training, no certificate programs, no license to obtain and no graduation to signal that we’re ready for all that lies ahead.

The good news is that you don’t need to know everything.

Your baby will be your best teacher. you will learn together as you approach each new milestone & stage. what's helpful though, in those early days, is entering into parenthood with an understanding of infant development and attachment so you can communicate love and comfort to your baby during their most vulnerable time.

Secure attachment between parent and child supports healthy development. when a baby is soothed and comforted during distress, they are able to feel safe. their sense of safety is what will lead to the building blocks of healthy development.

Skin to skin is a parent's best tool to promote attachment in the first year of life. as we’ve shared before, skin to skin supports:

  • Regulation of baby’s body temperature and heart rate
  • Release of Oxytocin (the feel good hormone)
  • Boost in baby’s brain functioning & development
  • Helping baby cry less
  • Initiation of breastfeeding & aids in building mom's milk supply

We know parenting is an enormous job and that’s why we’ve aimed to make skin to skin as simple as possible. As we head into these winter months, we hope you feel excited for the gift you're giving your baby with the intentional time spent close: connecting, attaching and bonding.

Always with love,
Bonsie 💕
